Astrakhan Art Gallery named after P. M. Gugadin
The Astrakhan State Art Gallery named after P. M. Dogadin is the largest art museum in the Astrakhan region. The collection includes works by famous Russian artists of the XVIII-XX centuries. Unique is the collection of paintings of the late XIX — early XX centuries. XX centuries. A special place in the collection is occupied by the Russian avant-garde. The gallery also has a large collection of West European prints of the XVII-XIX centuries. An important place in the collection is occupied by the creativity of the native Astrakhan by B. M. Kustodiev. Currently, the gallery has more than 19 thousand exhibits and is located in 23 halls of an old merchant's mansion.
Renaming and historical information
Opened on December 15 , 1918, as "Art Gallery and Museum of the Council of Trade Unions of the Astrakhan Region named after the founder P. M. Gugadin". From 1922 to 1928 -"Astrakhan Art Gallery", from 1929 to 1948 — "Astrakhan State Art Gallery", from 1949 to 1957 — "Astrakhan Regional Art Gallery", and in 1958, by a decree of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR, it was named after Kustodiev.
In 2008, the gallery was renamed the Astrakhan State Art Gallery named after P. M. Gugadin.
May 20, 1941 inThe Stalingrad Art Gallery opened a joint exhibition of Astrakhan and Stalingrad artists. One of the results of the exhibition was a joint meeting of the boards of the Stalingrad and Astrakhan branches of the Union of Soviet Artists, during which a plan for joint creative work was formed for the preparation of the exhibition "Our Homeland".
In June 1941, 20 works of Russian painting and graphics were transferred from the Astrakhan State Art Gallery to the Stalingrad Art Gallery.
On July 12, 1941, at a meeting of the Presidium of the Astrakhan branch of the Union of Soviet Artists, it was recommended that the Astrakhan State Art Gallery take part in the joint organization of an exhibition dedicated to the history of the defense of Russia and the USSR, and transfer reproductions and original works of art for it. A steamer was used to transport the exhibition "Joseph Stalin".
All the transferred paintings were lost along with the collection of the Stalingrad Art Gallery during the war.The Battle of Stalingrad.
Collections
Part of the gallery's exposition is a collection of books, magazines, catalogues, albums, which was started by By Pavel Pogadin. The collection is constantly updated with new publications, especially valuable among which are donated copies of the author. At the beginning of 2019, the gallery received a unique publication - the book " Say Your Own...", presented by its scientific editorBy Andrey Sarabyanov. The book is made up of diary entries, documents, rare photographs, reproductions of drawings and paintings Lev Yudin. The author of introductory articles and comments is a well-known art critic and art historian Irina Karasik.
