ABDEM

 ABDEM (A. B. D. E. M.) is the collective pseudonym of a group of translators that existed in the 1920s. The group included A. V. Boldyrev, A. I. Dovatur, A. N. Egunov, A. M. Mikhankov, and later E. E. Wiesel. For a short time, the group also included K. K. Vaginov. The name of the group is made up of the initials — the first letter of the names and the first letters of the surnames of the four original members.

Abdemites were among those who gathered with S. A. Zhebelev and I. I. Tolstoy.

Abdemitov's joint work was translating novels Achilles Tatius andHeliodorus.

ABDEM, working as a circle or seminar, had friendly ties with M. M. Bakhtin's group and with members of the OBERIU association; travestied images of their gatherings can be found in the novels and poems of K. K. Vaginov.

In the late 1920s and early 1930s, the group began preparatory work on Flavius Philostratus 'Life of Apollonius of Tyana.

The termination of the community's existence was due to the fact that a participant in the translation of Achilles Tatius, who belonged to the gaming and philosophical community "Space Academy of Sciences", was arrested for belonging to this academy.
