Astronomical and Geodetic Association
Astronomical and Geodetic Association (AGO) (until 2001 The All-Union Astronomical and Geodetic Society(VAGO) is a Russian and Soviet scientific and public organization that unites lovers of astronomy and geodesy. Is managed by Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation. Publishes scientific journals "Earth and Universe", "Astronomical Bulletin", "Astronomical calendar".
History
The idea of creation was expressed at the second congress of world history lovers in 1928. The Charter was approved on August 1 , 1932 by the Presidium of the All-Russian Executive Committee. The main tasks of the All-Union Astronomical and Geodetic Society were: popularization and promotion of knowledge among workers, professional development of scientific and technical personnel, improvement of teaching astronomy and geodesy. VAGO was then under the jurisdiction of the Academic Committee under the Central Election Commission of the USSR. The organization of the company took place in January 1934 in Moscow at the First All-Union Astronomical and Geodetic Congress. At this congress, all astronomical and geodetic circles and societies of the USSR were united. At the same time, the train was composed of: Russian Astronomical Society (RAO), Moscow Society of Astronomy Enthusiasts (MOLA),Russian Society of World History Lovers (ROLM). April 16 , 1938, by Decree of Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR The All-Union Astronomical and Geodetic Society was transferred to the jurisdiction of Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
VAGO was a collective member ofAll-Union Society "Znanie". By the seventh Congress of the VAGO, there were 8,000 full members, 2,000 members of youth sections, and 225 collective members. By 1984, VAGO had 75 branches in all the Union republics, with the Central Council located in Moscow. [1]
At the X Extraordinary Congress in Simferopol in December 1991, the All-Union Astronomical and Geodetic Society was transformed into the All-Russian Astronomical and Geodetic Society (AGO), which was registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation on March 5, 1992[2].
Since 2001, this organization is called Interregional Public Organization " Astronomical and Geodetic Association "(AGO)[3].
Research
Branch of all-Union astronomical and geodetic society carried out the observation of meteors and noctilucent clouds, satellites (4 October 1957), solar activity, variable stars, total solar eclipses 19 June 1936, February 25, 1952, 30 June 1954, February 15, 1961, 22 September 1968, 10 July 1972, 31 July 1981, held expedition to the crash site Tunguska meteorite, a meteorite Kaali, the meteorite Tsarev, conducted research on geodesy and cartography.
Publisher
The All-Union Astronomical and Geodetic Society published the VAGO Bulletin (until 1965). In 1967, it was replaced by the scientific journal "Astronomical Bulletin"), "Astronomical calendar", popular science magazine "Earth and Universe".
