State Catalog of Geographical Names

 The State Catalog of Geographical Names (abbreviated to Russian). (A)GKGN, A — automated) - federal information system Rosreestr, which contains the names of almost a million geographical features on the territory of Russia, its continental shelf and exclusive economic zone Of the Russian Federation, as well as the names of geographical features discovered or identified by Russian researchers within the open sea and Antarctica.


Creation and maintenance of the State Catalog of Geographical Names on behalf ofThe Central Research Institute of Geodesy, Aerial Photography and Cartography (TsNIIGAiK) has started to implement Rosreestr. In accordance with the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 220-r of February 19, 2013, these works were transferred to the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Federal Scientific and Technical Center for Geodesy, Cartography and Spatial Data Infrastructure" (Federal State Budgetary Institution "Center for Geodesy, Cartography and SPD")., of which TsNIIGAiK becamea part.


The names of geographical objects of the Russian Federation, the continental shelf and the exclusive economic zone of the Russian Federation, as well as names of geographical objects discovered or identified by Russian researchers within the open sea and the territory of the Russian Federation are subject to entry in the State Catalog.Antarctica. The state catalog is created and maintained in the form of an electronic database using an automated information search system that provides registration, storage and updating of information, as well as operational processing, preparation and issuance of information about the names of geographical objects registered in the State Catalog at the request of users. The state catalog is an integral part of the federal cartographic and geodetic fund, which is under the jurisdiction of the Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre and Cartography.


Paragraph 27 of the order of the Ministry of economic development of the Russian Federation dated 27.03.2014 № 172 "On approval of the Procedure of registration and accounting of names of geographical objects of the edition of dictionaries and reference of names of geographical objects and the execution of works on creation of the State catalogue of geographical names and its management" is defined donated at the request of interested individuals and legal entities, public authorities and bodies of local self-government information and materials from the State catalogue of geographical names.

Name options (not specified for all map items, but shown in italics)

Administrative district (specified for localities)

Geographical coordinates (accurate to one minute or one tenth of a minute)

Linking to other geographical items (not specified for all items)

Item number of the topographic map sheet 1: 100000

Date and reason for de-registering the item (for previously existing items)
